black v home
same riff?
The other day I was listening to some tuneage, and “Home” from Depeche Mode came on, and I suddenly had an epiphany; that the hook riff sounded strikingly familiar, and then it hit me, it’s like “Black” from Pearl Jam; I thought holy fuck is this a coincidence, which I immediately ruled out since I don’t subscribe to coincidences. I concluded that Black was most likely the inspiration for the distinct Home hook. Now, I realize “Home” has a little extra riff (not familiar with musical terms). However, I searched the internet to see if anyone else had noticed this and came up empty. Am I the only one that has noticed this? I will let you conclude. Please leave your comments below and let me know your thoughts.
Oh my God, yes!! My parents were watching the Depeche Mode show from Primavera Sound 2023 on YouTube yesterday, and when ‘Home’ started playing, I noticed it has the same guitar rhythm as Pearl Jam’s ‘Black.’ I did some research and only found your site, so it looks like we’re the only ones who noticed this, haha. Depeche Mode released ‘Home’ in 1997 and Pearl Jam released ‘Black’ in 1991. I’m thrilled that Depeche Mode was inspired by my favorite band and one of their most profound songs. Thanks for sharing this! Greetings from Brazil <3
Thank you for stopping by Juliana!
