just listen
stop and listen:
One of the hardest lessons in personal development is simply listening when communicating with someone. The ego wants to “one up,” meaning we want to let the other person know that we have experience with something similar.
Try this:
The next time you have a conversation and they bring up something you relate to, don’t chime in and share your story; instead, validate their experience without giving them an example of your experience. The ego will want to be validated equally, and I’m not going to lie; this is so fucking hard to do because our ego wants to respond with a one-up.
