overrated throats

This is my list of some of the most overrated throats, aka singers in rock, as fans and critics gush over them. Most of them have had massive albums and been in some of the best bands in history.

*Please note, these are in no particular order because overrated can’t have a numerical sequence.

robert plant

Don’t get me wrong, Robert Plant has one of the best throats in rock in roll, as he led Led Zeppelin into the stratosphere on a fucking balloon that was, according to Keith Moon, scheduled to crash into the Atlantic upon takeoff. Nevertheless, he created a noteworthy solo career after the Zeppelin safely landed.

Rolling Stone Magazine readers poll recently named Plant, the best singer, as it appears that Ronnie James Dio fell out of the balloon, as he wasn’t on the list. It amazes me how the majority have such short memories.

With all that said, Bob showed up on this list because he isn’t great; his voice is a bit too whiney and lacks vibrato.

Freddie Mercury

I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t put Freddie on the list, as Freddie is number one on my cringe list in every category the guy shows up in. As I’ve mentioned, I’m confident that everyone that thinks Freddie is remarkable has been brainwashed.

john lennon

No, this isn’t a list of dead throats; it’s just that they seem to end up on the end of the majority’s tongue when asked who the best is, despite Ronnie James Dio not ending up on the said lists; I digress. John Lennon sang most of the Beetle’s joints and did a great job. He, like Plant, lacks the necessary components to be a great singer, as does Yoko Ono.

Taylor Swift

Taylor has always perplexed me, as I have never understood her popularity or how she got to where she is. I equate Taylor to Starbucks, as they have both gone outside the box to follow the conventional way of running their business. Meaning Taylor sings out of key as Starbucks over roasts their coffee. Have the producers failed to use AutoTune, or is she so far off-key that AutoTune cannot correct her apparent flaws, and one can’t ignore the fact that she resembles an alien?

It was very refreshing when in 2019, TOOL kicked Taylor out of Billboard’s top position with their release of Fear Inoculum. Perhaps this was a classic TOOL esoteric diss on Taylor, as she’s a virus to the music industry?
