underrated guitarist
This is my list of some of the most underrated guitarists in rock, as they somehow flew off the radar of critics and listeners alike. Some of these guitarists have had massive success, either as solo artists or in their respective bands, but for some reason, they have been overlooked for their true shredding talent.
*Please note, these are in no particular order because amazing can’t have a numerical sequence.
Lindsey Buckingham
Despite my disclaimer about this list being in numerical order, I put Lindsey first because this guy truly is underrated, as he is overlooked by his peers and band members alike. If you search YouTube, there are very few videos of him. Yet, if you have had the pleasure of seeing Fleetwood Mac or one of his solo concerts, the fact that Lindsey is fucking amazing will hit you like a ton of bricks. Then, to top it off, Lindsey recently got kicked out of Fleetwood Mac, most likely because Stevie Nicks has mental issues and is unable to let go.
prince
Everyone gushes over Prince. However, most overlook the fact that he was a fucking amazing guitarist. I’m not one to brag. However, when it comes to Prince, I’m going to embellish and say I saw his 1999, Purple Rain and Love Symbol tours. Unfortunately, Prince walked off the stage during the LoveSymbol tour at the Gorge because of the wind, and the sound was getting blown around, which in turn pissed off his perfectionism nature.
Vivian Campbell
It seems Vivian has been overlooked by his peers, including Ronny James Dio, who slams his choice to leave the band to play rhythm guitar for Def Leppard. Which, never made sense to me either. Then again, I’m not Vivian.
